CIVIL MARRIAGES

Required Documents

EU CITIZENS

Original or certified copies of the following documents must be submitted by the interested parties at the time of application:

  • Non-marriage certificate from the competent authority of their country with an official Translation into Greek/English and duly certified. The date of issue of this document should not exceed three months.
  • Valid Passport.
  • Valid Registration Certificate (Yellow Slip) (in cases where it is deemed necessary).
  • Birth Certificate.
  • Divorce Certificate (final) (in case of divorce) with an official translation in Greek/English and duly certified.
  • Death Certificate relevant only for Widows/Widowers translated in Greek /English and duly certified.

THIRD COUNTRY NATIONALS

Original or certified copies of the following documents must be submitted by the interested parties at the time of application:

  • Non-marriage certificate from the competent authority of their country with an official translation into Greek/English and duly certified. The date of issue of this document should not exceed three months.
  • Non-marriage certificate from the Civil Registry and Migration Department in Cyprus.
  • Valid Passport.
  • Valid Registration Certificate (Yellow Slip) (in cases where it is deemed necessary).
  • Birth Certificate.
  • Divorce Certificate (final) in case of divorce, with an official translation in Greek/English and duly certified.
  • Death Certificate in case of Widows/Widowers translated in Greek /English and duly certified.

NOTE that Public Documents issued abroad must:
a) be certified with APOSTILLE if the country has signed the Hague Convention of 1961 or

b) in the instance that the country of origin of the applicant has not signed the Hague Convention of 1961,
– be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of origin of the applicant and then by the Embassy/Consulate of Cyprus in his country
or
– be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of origin of the applicant and then the Embassy / Consulate of his country in Cyprus and then certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus.

– In the instance that the country of origin of the applicant has not signed the Hague Convention of 1961 and there is no Embassy /Consulate of Cyprus in the above mentioned country the documents must be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of origin of the applicant and then the nearest Embassy / Consulate which is accredited to Cyprus.

NOTE: The interested parties are kindly advised to send all their documents at civil weddings Department via e-mail in advance to be checked that all is in order before they travel to Cyprus, and to enable us to advise if any further documents or verifications are required. Applications are accepted at the Department for Civil Marriages at the Municipality from Monday to Friday between 08:00 -14:00, in the presence of interested parties.

Wedding fees must be paid on cash or by visa card, upon request.
