“Child Care Centre in the Municipality of Agios Athanasios"
The project for the “Child Care Centre in the Municipality of Agios Athanasios” was implemented in the context of the Cyprus Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) with an approved budget of €1,100,000 funded from the Recovery and Resilience Fund of the European Union. The project falls under Axis 5 of the RRP, “Labour market, social protection, education and capital” and Component 5.2 “Labour market, social protection and inclusion” and aims to facilitate the participation, especially of women with caring responsibilities, in the labour market, to improve access to affordable early childhood education and care and to create a network of childcare facilities.
Today, the “Child Care Centre in the Municipality of Agios Athanasios”, covers the needs of childcare and education of families with workers in the industrial area of Agios Athanasios, as well as families of the wider area of the municipality. It is the first childcare centre to be built within the administrative center of an industrial area and its operation, among other things, highlights the need to create additional structures in areas that gather a large number of workers, such as the industrial area of Agios Athanasios, in which around 10,000 people are employed.
The “Child Care Centre in the Municipality of Agios Athanasios” operates four classes for children aged 2 to 4 years old and one class for pre-primary school children aged 4 to 5 years old. The building includes a modern food preparation area, a dining room, playground, areas that serve on a daily basis 300 children from all the programmes of the Centre including afternoon activities and childcare for children aged 2 to 12 years old. It should be noted that part of the operation of these programmes is funded by the national budget and in particular the Social Welfare Services of the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare of the Republic of Cyprus.
The inauguration ceremony of the “Child Care Centre in the Municipality of Agios Athanasios” was held on Friday, June 2, 2023 by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Nikos Christodoulidis – relevant post and photos in the link here.
